The court case in Jenna, New Orleans may have thurst him into wider recognition to numerous people who have never heard of him or even never heard of Jena 6. This case is about six Black high school students in Jena, Louisiana who many people feel have been wrongfully charged with attempted murder of a white teenager. Racial tensions were initially triggered by white students hanging a noose on a tree which was a tree meant for whites only.. This is an on going case, one of the 6 black teenagers is currently in jail. His name is Mychal Bell. Many top high profile Blacks such as Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson,the NAACP and numerous others joined in the demonstration in Jena on September 20.2007.
